All Hallows Eve

For the record, yes we let our children dress up and mock evil on All Hallows Eve.

Someone really famous once wrote that to laugh evil in the face is the best retort.

So, we start out by singing the obligatory Hallowe'en song:

Hallowee-ee-een
the witches flying high
have you see-ee-een
their shadows in the sky

O beware!
Don't you dare
to even boast
or a ghost
to your dismay
will hear you say
that you don't care
to say a prayer
and it will come
and pull your hair.

I have no idea of the origin of this little ditty, but I remeber my Mom teaching it to me when I was 3... and we sang it every year as halloween approached.

We also celebrate All Hallows Day (All Saints Day) by letting the kids dress up as their favorite saint.

This year the children have chosen:
Saint Anne with a little Blessed Virgin Mary by her side,
St. George
St Martin of Tours
St. Robert Lawrence

Have fun, y'all!

halloween is not a big thing in m'sia. some restaurants or shopping centres may just have it to attract people to their places only.

""The devill...the prowde spirite...cannot endure to be mocked."
-Thomas More
(although I first saw the quote in the Preface to The Screwtape Letters)

Thanks, Zathras! I was thinking of the Screwtape Letters. Just was way too tired to remember it was Lewis.

Yep, lots of laughs last night. And oh my, we run out of candy again this year before 800pm.
Will there be pictures of your litle saints that we can see? :-)

How I miss being in a neighborhood!
::sigh::

I forgot my camera, but I can dress them up again and snap pics!

We had 2 last minute changes... B looked extremely regal as St. Helen (of the True Cross).

D. was so cute as St. Catherine of Sienna... selected because her granny goes by Katarina in spaish. Maybe next year she'll keep her veil on LOL

S. missed out completely, poor kid! Came down with a horrible fever and severe dizziness last night.

He had to recline on the couch and watch movies while the others watched 4 pinatas get whacked to oblivion.

There were easily 2x (maybe 3x?) as many kids at the All Saints party this year. B. and J. didn't even get a chance to hit the pinatas, but boy did they scrabble for the treasure released from said pinatas!

The FEAST the parish staff laid out was incredible! Deacon cooked a gazillion hot dogs and hamburgers. Boxes of bagged chips were available for munching. And the cake, the ice cream! Unbelievable!

It must be said. The All Saints haul definitely beat the Halloween haul. If they keep this up, maybe we reserve our creative energy for All Saints alone.
